Other Positions Held / Length of Each: Production Assistant - 1 Year, Quality Auditor - 3 years

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Carlos said that his favorite story was from his first year at working at Team 1 Plastics. He was on his way to work and had stopped at a local gas station. While he was there, he realized that his dog had gotten out because he saw the dog walking down the street. Carlos said, “I told the person that I was riding with, ‘Hey, I’ll get another ride to work. I have to get my dog.’ I had to run from the gas station all the way to Albion College to catch him and take him back home. By the time I got to work, I was mad because I was late, and I don’t like to be late.” Carlos continued, “I happened to be telling Shelley [Lewis] what happened when she looked down at my pants, and I had slobber from my dog all over them. The expression on her face was priceless! We ended up laughing about it for the rest of the day.”

Laughing at the memory, Will said that he “threw like five gutter balls in a row.” He admits to not being a good bowler, “but that was unusual.” And, he said that his teammates did a good job of teasing him about the gutter balls. “Charles was on my team, and he had a couple of good rips in there!”

Position: Maintenance Captain

Date of Hire: 11/8/2010

Other Positions Held / Length of Each: Tooling Specialist – 4 years

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Andy said that his favorite memories at Team 1 have been during plant shutdowns and installation of new machines when the members of the Maintenance Department are working together on the same project. He explained that most of the time, the Team Members of the Maintenance Department work independently on different tasks and on different shifts. But, during shutdowns and installations, they all work on the same shift, and are all focused on the same project. For example, he said, “Two years ago when we installed our new water tower, that was a two-week shutdown, and we were in a tight timeline. We just all worked together to get it done. We work well as a team. I really enjoy that!” He added, “You learn a lot about each other during these times.”

Derrick Goble

Position: Process Technician

Date of Hire: 9/13/2010

Other Positions Held / Length of Each: Assembly Assistant: 4 months; Production Assistant: 1 year; Die Setter: 4 years; Lead Captain: 1 year

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Derrick said that his favorite story “… has to be the story that I have with Shelley [Lewis].” Then, he explained, “One day, shortly after I first hired in as a Production Assistant, I was talking to Shelley. I asked her how long she’d been at Team 1. She replied, ‘Next month, I’ll have been working here 20 years.’ ‘Man!’ I replied, ‘That’s a crazy long time! I don’t think I could work at this place for 20 years. That’s forever!’ She replied, ‘You just wait – it’ll creep up on you and the next thing you know, it’ll have been 20 years.’”

Derrick said that Shelley often reminds him of their conversation. “After I had been at Team 1 about three years, Shelley said, ‘Hey, I see you’re still here! You’ve got another year under your belt!’ And just a couple of months ago, she said, ‘It’s been about 7 years now, hasn’t it? You’re going to be a lifer here with me!’”

Dave Biondo

Posted on Sep 19, 2017 9:00:00 AM

Position: Sales Development Manager

Date of Hire: 8/23/2010

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Dave shared a story about the time that he and Craig Carrel were visiting a potential customer for an introductory meeting. During the conversation, the customer communicated that they were having difficulty getting acceptable parts from a prototype mold that they were running in house. Dave said, “They needed a high-pressure mold to run this part, and we thought we had the equipment in our shop and that we could run it better.” Half-jokingly, Dave and Craig suggested that they load up the mold in Craig’s vehicle and take it back to Team 1 and try it out. Surprising both Craig and Dave, the customer replied, “That’s not too crazy of an idea!” So that’s what they did. At the conclusion of the meeting, they drove Craig’s vehicle to the loading dock, put the mold into the trunk, and drove it back to Albion. Over the next few days, Team 1 ran trials, adjusted the mold, and produced acceptable parts. And, the rest of the story … “We ended up getting the production business!”

Position: Lead Captain

Date of Hire: 8/8/07

Other Positions Held: Production Assistant, Quality Assistant, Shipping & Receiving, Team Captain (Die Setter), Lead Captain, Process Engineer

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Hesham said that one of his favorite memories occurred early in his tenure with Team 1. He decided to attend the annual Winter party for the Team Members. He said that he had never attended a company party before. “All I expected was that we were going to go there and eat and drink.” He was completely shocked when some ladies grabbed him and pulled him onto the dance floor. He soon found himself in the middle of a circle of ladies dancing. “It seemed kinda crazy and weird to me, but it was kinda fun. I liked it!”

His other favorite memory is how the company survived both the Recession of 2008 and the Japanese tsunami. Thinking back on those two events and how they affected the finances of Team 1, Hesham said, “It is quite shocking that the company was still there. With our great ownership, we made it, and I still had a job.”
