Position: Part-time Assembly Assistant

Date of Hire: 08/25/2013

Other Positions Held / Length of Each: This is Marife’s second employment period with Team 1 Plastics. She previously worked at the company for 11-1/2 years (from 1997 to 2008) in several different positions including Packager, Production Assistant, and Team Coach.

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Each year, Team 1 Plastics has a summer outing for its Team Members. Marife’s favorite memory is from the time that the event was a trip to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. “The company rented a bus, and all of us were in the bus, and it was really nice.” She said that she enjoyed riding the Sky Ride which moves you from the front of the amusement park to the middle section. What she wouldn’t ride were the rollercoasters, even though her Team Members encouraged her to try them. “I never ride on a rollercoaster. I’m scared of them. That was the first time I’d seen one. We don’t have them in the Philippines, and I saw all of those people screaming, and I told my Team Members, ‘I’ll just watch you guys!’”

Position: Human Resources Manager

Date of Hire: 8/12/13

Other Positions Held / Length of Each: Human Resources Assistant - 1 year, 10 months

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Rob’s favorite memory is from the summer of 2014 when the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was trending on social media and at Team 1 Plastics. Rob told the story, “Craig (Carrel), Gary (Grigowski), Dave (Sanford), and Mike (Muma) all participated in the challenge. I remember being in the Break Room as the buckets were filled. With the amount of ice that was put into that water, it was probably as close to freezing as it could have been without being solid. They were all good sports about it, and the video turned out awesome. And, Team 1 offered to cover the donation for all team members who were nominated.”

Rob admits that he had been nominated by Mike and says that he intended to participate in the challenge. Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on your perspective), he put off being in the challenge until it was too late. However, Rob did contribute to Team 1’s Ice Bucket Challenge – he was the one behind the video camera, preserving the memory.

Position: Production Assistant

Date of Hire: 1/27/2013

Other Positions Held / Length of Each: Assembly Assistant – 1 year

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Karen shared a memory from when she first began working at Team 1 Plastics. She said that she had never worked in a factory before and didn’t know what to expect. She was instructed to work at an injection molding press in which she would be required to manually take out the finished parts. “I looked at that machine and had tears in my eyes, thinking to myself, ‘What did I get myself into?’ I was scared to death.” Her supervisor didn’t understand her hesitation and reminded her that this was her job assignment and there would be consequences if she didn’t do her job. Karen said that she looked at him and said, “I’m scared.” He then realized why she was hesitating and he replied, “Oh, no. We have all the safety precautions that you need.” And then he thoroughly explained them. “It eased my mind,” Karen said. “Although,” she admitted, “I was still a little bit afraid, but that made a huge difference.”

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Carlos said that his favorite story was from his first year at working at Team 1 Plastics. Carlos said, “I told the person that I was riding with, ‘Hey, I’ll get another ride to work. I have to get my dog.’ I had to run from the gas station all the way to Albion College to catch him and take him back home. By the time I got to work, I was mad because I was late, and I don’t like to be late.” Carlos continued, “I happened to be telling Shelley [Lewis] what happened when she looked down at my pants, and I had slobber from my dog all over them. The expression on her face was priceless! We ended up laughing about it for the rest of the day.”

Position: Maintenance Captain

Date of Hire: 11/8/2010

Other Positions Held / Length of Each: Tooling Specialist – 4 years

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Andy said that his favorite memories at Team 1 have been during plant shutdowns and installation of new machines when the members of the Maintenance Department are working together on the same project. He explained that most of the time, the Team Members of the Maintenance Department work independently on different tasks and on different shifts. But, during shutdowns and installations, they all work on the same shift, and are all focused on the same project. For example, he said, “Two years ago when we installed our new water tower, that was a two-week shutdown, and we were in a tight timeline. We just all worked together to get it done. We work well as a team. I really enjoy that!” He added, “You learn a lot about each other during these times.”
