Position: Customer Service Manager

Date of Hire: 2/1/2016

Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Each year, Team 1 Plastics sponsors a Superbowl squares contest with monetary prizes for its Team Members. Kari said the contest in 2016 is her favorite memory, and it occurred during her very first week of working for Team 1. “Before I had officially started working for Team 1, they had put my name on a square in the contest. That was a really nice way to come into a new job – so very welcoming!” She added, “And, I won two squares that year! It was a great way to start off my first week on a job!” She also mentioned some other events from her first year of working at Team 1: the Safety Days celebration when Team 1 passed 5500 consecutive days of no lost-time accidents and the Open Houses that Team 1 hosted for its customers and the community. “That whole year seemed to be filled with a lot of exciting stuff at Team 1! It was a really good year!”

How has Team 1 helped your Personal and/or Professional Development? Kari said that Team 1 has helped her develop professionally in her role as a Customer Service Manager. She was a supervisor at her previous job with a Manager overseeing her. Now, she’s the Manager – a role Kari said has “been professionally challenging.” She explained, “Learning to make the decisions on your own, and having the freedom to make those decisions has been a great challenge. I have a great teacher in Craig [Carrel, President and Co-owner]. He allows me to make the decisions by myself, but he is there for me with ideas and advice if I have questions. He’s great to learn from. He fully believes that the customers are right, and he does what he can to serve the customers.”

Favorite Aspect of Working at Team 1: Kari mentioned several things that are her favorite aspects of working at Team 1. The first was the Team Members. “I feel that as a Team, we’re invested in each other. It’s awesome! We want to see each other succeed, and we do everything we can to empower each other and challenge each other to grow.”

Second, she mentioned the customers. “Team 1 has a great group of customers, and I like developing relationships with them.” As a life-long customer service professional, “that is something I’ve been doing my whole career. It’s always fun and different. You develop relationships that last a lifetime. I enjoy taking care of their needs. I like doing what I can to make them happy.”

Another favorite aspect “is that the company is very family oriented, especially the bosses. They care about you as a person – not just as an employee – and that’s extremely valuable in a job. They want to see you succeed professionally, and they’re here for you personally as well. The atmosphere at Team 1 is different than the atmosphere at most companies, and it’s great!”

Kari also mentioned the weekly news articles and social media posts that the company produces, commenting that they help “to make Team 1 more personable.”

What do you want to share about your life outside of Team 1? “When I’m not working, it’s family time,” Kari said. “It’s what my world revolves around.” She has two sons. One is 15 years old, and the other is six. “They’re both into sports and school, and the youngest son is pretty energetic, so it keeps me pretty busy.”

Piece of Advice and/or Encouragement for Future Team 1 Team Members: “The best thing to do is to learn what you can. Team 1 will definitely do what it can to help you succeed, grow professionally and personally, and be promoted. Team 1 likes to promote from within. We have a strong team with a lot of knowledge, and they are willing to share that knowledge so soak up everything that you can and learn from these individuals, and you will definitely succeed.”

Random Question: Would you rather win an Olympic medal, an Academy Award, or the Nobel Peace prize? Kari replied, “The Academy Award for sure.” She explained her reasoning. “I’m not an athlete, and I don’t think I’m smart enough for the Nobel Peace prize so I think my best bet would be for the Academy Award.” Then, she added, laughing, “Oh, you know, who doesn’t have dreams of being an actress when they’re a kid!”
