Harbour Leadership Group Tours Team 1 Plastics Facility

As a “trusted advisor to the manufacturing industry,” Harbour Results, Inc. (HRI) is committed to helping revitalize manufacturing across North America. With a primary focus on small and medium-sized businesses, HRI’s goal is “to enable growth, execute change and resolve issues affecting short-term sustainability, near-term viability and long-term success of [their] clients.”
HRI’s Leadership Group took a tour of Team 1 Plastics last month, as a part of their Leadership Forum in Detroit. According to HRI’s LinkedIn Post, “Our Leadership Forum is an interactive program focused on developing the manufacturing industry’s next-generation leaders. It is our goal to create an environment where peers come together to discuss challenges and successes and learn from one another.” Meeting twice a year, the Harbour Leadership Group consists of a broad group of manufacturing professionals, including Team 1’s own Plant Manager Dave Sanford.

Dave joined the Leadership Forum in 2018. “Being part of this Leadership Group has helped me grow professionally and personally,” he shared. “We all face similar challenges within our businesses and it’s beneficial to have a group to discuss those challenges with, and to learn from one another. The group is very supportive, and [Harbour’s leaders] Scott and Laurie are excellent people to learn from. At times they challenge us and push us outside of our normal comfort levels, which is key to growing and becoming a better leader and person.”
Dave described the process and purpose of the Harbour Leadership facility tours. “Each time the Leadership team meets, we try to tour at least a couple of facilities. The purpose is to show what each company has been doing, and hopefully, there are some beneficial takeaways for the team to implement in their own facilities. The group also provides feedback to the hosting company on areas of excellence and areas of improvement. As a group, we listen to the feedback and determine what areas to work on to become better. This is beneficial to have outsiders provide this feedback because those areas of improvement can be easy to miss in your own plant, when you work in it every day.”
On the afternoon of May 3, Team 1 Plastics hosted its first-ever facility tour with the Harbour Leadership Group. After introductions and a small discussion in the Conference Room, the group learned a little about Team 1’s 35-year history. The tour then split the Leadership members into four groups, each paired with a Team 1 tour guide.
