What is your favorite story or memory during your time working at Team 1?
Scott’s favorite memories are hanging with other Team Members and their families at the company parties. The one that stands out the most for him is the Summer party in 2017 which was held on Team 1 Plastics’ property. The party featured a carnival theme equipped with games, prizes, face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, caricature drawings, and a dunk tank. Scott said that he helped run the dunk tank, retrieving the balls that were thrown. He said that what made this party so special was that it seemed like people were interacting more with each other than they do at parties held at other locations. “I just had fun hanging out and talking with everybody and watching the bosses get dunked!”
How has Team 1 helped your personal and/or professional development?
It is the encouragement of one particular Team Member, Hesham Yahia, that has made a difference for Scott. “Hesham encouraged me to try different stuff. It was because of him and his encouragement that I tried the Die Setter position, and I really enjoyed it.”
What is your favorite aspect of working at Team 1?
Scott appreciates how at Team 1, “everybody is willing to pitch in and help one another. If you’re struggling, they do what they can to help you;” for example, “on hot days, they make sure you get extra breaks to get drinks.”
What do you want to share about your life outside of Team 1?
Going fishing and enjoying the outdoors are Scott’s main interests outside of Team 1. His favorite spot is the local Multi Lake, a chain of five lakes in Albion, Michigan. Much of the area surrounding the lakes is forest, and he often sees wildlife such as ducks and geese on the water and deer crossing the channels. The lakes are stocked with “a lot of pan fish like blue gills and bass” which he eats. There is also a mystery creature in the lake that Scott snagged on his fishing line. “I got ahold of something. I don’t exactly what it is, but it yanked me right out of the seat in the boat!” Unfortunately (or fortunately) the creature broke Scott’s fishing line and got away, leaving the mystery of the creature unsolved.
Do you have any advice and/or encouragement for future Team 1 team members?
Scott’s advice to new Team Members is “Don’t give up when you first start because you think it’s too hard. Keep working. It does get easier as you get used to it.”
Now for a totally random question:
Who is the greatest living musician?
“That’s a hard one to decide. There’s a lot of them I like,” Scott said as he debated which musician he would choose. He finally narrowed the field to three – Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, and Billy Dean – and chose Garth Brooks. “He’s got more songs that I like, and most of his songs are the older Country style.”
