Team 1 Plastics’ Expansion Progresses
The steel has been delivered, and the erecting of the steel frame is underway at Team 1 Plastics, a plastic injection molding company specializing in automotive parts. The company, located in Albion, Michigan, is in the process of expanding both its building and production capabilities.
The expansion is driven in response to the ongoing growth of the automotive industry, which since 2010, has been on a steady growth increase. Predictions for 2016 and beyond by automotive industry expert, IHS, are upbeat according to its article, IHS Global Outlook for Automotive Sales: Continued Momentum in North America, Europe Could Put Industry Within Reach of 90 Million Units in 2016. “The U.S. auto market has been powered by a combination of low interest rates and low gas prices, allowing for market momentum to remain strong. Although interest rates will be a slight headwind, buying conditions will remain positive, allowing the market to continue to grow in 2016 and 2017.”
Team 1 Plastics’ building expansion, the first in more than 15 years, will increase the plant by 3,500 square feet. Thanks to the mild winter that mid-Michigan is experiencing, the construction is progressing well. In fact, it is slightly ahead of schedule. Erecting of the steel frame was originally scheduled to begin in early February 2016.
Inside the plant, Team 1 has already installed three new production molding machines. The company plans to add a total of seven new molding machines as new business warrants future expansions.
