Building Community Through Event Sponsorship
In 1999, with input from all team members, Team 1 Plastics adopted their Championship Dream. This written agreement, similar to a mission statement, entails “how the company lives and breathes as they do business” and includes four core values: Customer Service Excellence, Team Member Success, Freedom to Succeed, and Positive Community Member.
Team 1 holds true to being a Positive Community Member by putting their donations and volunteer efforts toward organizations and events within the local communities of Jackson and Calhoun counties. Some of those donations and volunteer efforts include Public Schools, Junior Achievement, Starr Commonwealth, Albion Chamber of Commerce, South Michigan Food Bank, Albion Community Foundation, and local community events.
WALK THE BEAT
Team 1 Plastics continued their role as Positive Community Members by contributing to Albion’s annual Walk the Beat Street Music Festival. This free community event was hosted by Walk the Beat Michigan over the weekend on Saturday, August 27. Team 1 has been proud to support their mission since 2019 and will continue for years to come. “Walk the Beat is a volunteer nonprofit organization that builds communities through music. We create opportunities for musical education, relationships and performance. Walk the Beat brings musicians to audiences in unexpected places. Our vision: Music everywhere for everyone.”
More specifically, Walk the Beat Albion President Cliff Harris describes what this music festival means for the city of Albion. “Walk the Beat is now a three-city organization. Walk the Beat White Lake Area, Walk the Beat Grand Haven, and Walk the Beat Albion. We build community through music by sponsoring musical events year-round, by providing music lessons and instruments for kids, and by sponsoring music and trying to be a support system for the music scene in Albion in any way that we can.”
2022 WALK THE BEAT ALBION – STREET MUSIC FESTIVAL
For their seventh year in Albion, this year’s Walk the Beat Street Music Festival provided 30 musical acts at 14 different locations throughout downtown. Seeing around 1500 visitors this year, the festival was an amazing opportunity for the city of Albion. The variety of music genres was a real treat for every listener! Not only did this event bring the community together, but it brought lots of traffic to so many local businesses. In fact, Cliff Harris explained that “many venues reported essentially all visitors came specifically for the event; with Albion Malleable Brewing Company and YellowBird Chocolate Shop both having all-time record sales.”
In addition to the musical acts, there were many free giveaways: everything from candy to event t-shirts. Each location also had a tent with door prize drawings, ranging from gift certificates to musical instruments and more: totaling 17 prizes worth $3400! Team 1 Plastics sponsored the Bournelis Park location and the Casio CT-S1 keyboard door prize. Musical acts at this location included Rae of Light Band and Lost Magic.
Team 1 has been proud to foster community togetherness for the city of Albion through music-based sponsorships throughout 2022: including Walk the Beat Albion Street Festival, Black Squirrel Bluegrass and Americana Music Festival, and Swingin’ at the Shell.
