Team 1 Plastics Featured in MDE Magazine
Manufacturing & Distribution Executive (MDE) magazine recently featured Team 1 Plastics as one of the cover stories in its Winter 2016 edition. The article, entitled “A Clear Vision,” discussed Team 1’s focus on “being a global leader in providing high-quality plastic components to the automotive industry.”
In the article, Craig Carrel, one of the three men who started Team 1 Plastics, stated that a global reach has always been a goal of the company. “Our initial target market was the Japanese automotive supply base … We saw that as an opportunity. We’ve always had a global perspective since the company inception.”
The article points out that Team 1 is achieving that goal. “Now, more than 25 percent of the company’s parts – manufactured for automotive suppliers – go to other countries, particularly Mexico, one of the fastest-growing automotive markets in North America for production.”
Several keys to Team 1’s success were discussed in the article, including automation. The company “incorporates the latest in plastic injection molding automation equipment. This automation allows up to 40 percent or more in savings compared to manual operations.”
Another key is “setting in place a clear vision for the company.” Carrel said that the company “is trying to make sure that we, as an organization, set down our core values and principals.” One of the tools that Team 1 uses is its Championship Dream, a document that defines the company’s culture, including its “dedication to becoming a recognized leader in the plastics industry utilizing continuous improvement, from processes to product. It also includes a laser-sharp focus on customer service, team member success, positive community impact and an adherence to free market ideals.”
The article concludes with Carrel’s affirmation, “We are committed to the automotive market and expanding with our customers … We really feel like we have a core group of exceptional customers that we can execute our plans with and grow along with them while making both companies more successful.”
