Profile of Team Member – Mitch Hemgesberg

“Building an exceptional company is the result of building exceptional teams with exceptional people.”
Team 1 Plastics, a plastic injection molding company for the mobility industry, has been and continues to be a successful company because of our exceptional team. Today, we will introduce one of these exceptional people, Mitch Hemgesberg, as we continue a series of articles profiling our team members.

Name: Mitch Hemgesberg

Position: Project Engineer II

Other Positions Held: Engineering Intern, Process Engineer

Date of Hire: 11/16/2018

What is your favorite story or memory during your time working at Team 1?
Mitch first met Team 1 Plastic’s CEO Craig Carrel and Engineering Manager Dave Seedorf at a job fair at Ferris State University in 2017.  The pair were recruiting for summer internships at Team 1 Plastics.  Being closer than the competing companies to his hometown of Chesaning, Michigan, Mitch thought Team 1 would be a good prospect to check out.  After coming to Team 1, he really liked the “small-town vibes” in Albion, and he remembers the team members were “friendly and welcoming during my initial internship in the summer of 2017. That was the main reason for accepting a position at Team 1 later on,”

How has Team 1 helped your personal and/or professional development?
“Team 1 has helped me develop all of my professional skills including my plastic processing skills and my communication skills.  I learned a lot theoretically at school, but I feel like most of my skills came from actually working during my internships.  It seemed like I learned a lot.”  After his initial internship in 2017, Mitch continued a second internship in 2018 – working in Process Engineering and Maintenance. This allowed him to “get the feel of everything” and be prepared if he earned a job with Team 1. Upon completion of his Bachelor’s of Plastics Engineering Technology the following December, he was offered a permanent job as a Process Engineer. “I was definitely a lot less confident before I had this position!” he recalls.

What is your favorite aspect of working at Team 1?
“I work more on the technical side; getting the mold, making sure the end-of-arm tools for the robotic arm are built, and communicating with the customer any concerns we might have.  My part is to make sure everybody’s “in the loop,” and I really like the teamwork: everyone wants us to succeed as a company and everyone is very friendly.”

What do you want to share about your life outside of Team 1?
Mitch learned to play the guitar his senior year of high school and since then, his love of music has become a big part of his life.  Although unusual for his generation, folk music is his favorite genre.  Additionally, when travel is more openly available post-pandemic, he would love to visit Germany where the roots of his last name reside.  He would also love to visit Japan.  “I’m very interested in the artistic culture of both of those countries.”

Do you have any advice and/or encouragement for future Team 1 team members?
Mitch ensures “there will be some harder days, but they will pass.  Just give it your best effort and push forward.”

Now for a totally random question:
If you could time travel to anywhere, when and where would it be, and why?
Mitch would like to travel 100 years in the future, “just to see how much everything here has changed.  Have we managed to figure out the energy crisis?”
