Favorite Story / Memory during Time Working at Team 1: Patrick said that his favorite memory is from a recent event — the Winter Party that was held in February 2019 at Marshall Lanes. He said that he enjoyed “bowling with everybody and having a good time.” During the evening, raffle prizes, ranging from gift cards to a TV, were drawn. Even though he didn’t win any prizes, Patrick said that he still had a great time. He and his very-pregnant finance’ bowled with Team Members, Vance Bodell and Star Stepp. His finance’ remarked during the evening, “I’m going to bowl this baby out!” Thankfully, the baby held off and made his appearance a few weeks later.
How has Team 1 helped your Personal and/or Professional Development? Being the B Team Captain is the first leadership position of his Patrick’s professional career, and he said that it has helped him in his personal development. The position has taught him to do a better job of “listening to people, having more patience, and being more calm and collected.” Patrick expects to continue to development both personally and professionally at Team 1 as he works toward future advancement. “I plan on growing more into the company, maybe trying a Maintenance position or the Quality Manager position or even Operations Manager.”
Favorite Aspect of Working at Team 1: Patrick appreciates that Team 1 Plastics is family oriented. He shared a personal example. When his oldest daughter was born, there were some medical complications, and she was transferred to Sparrow hospital in Lansing. At the time, Patrick was a temporary employee at Team 1. He said that even though he was a week shy of qualifying for FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), Team 1’s HR department approved the time off. “That really helped me out!”
Patrick mentioned a couple of other things that he likes about Team 1 Plastics. “I like the fact that anytime someone has a baby, Team 1 makes a personalized blanket for them. That’s really neat! And I like that we don’t have to work seven days a week” – something which Patrick said he had been required to do at previous employers.
What do you want to share about your life outside of Team 1? Spending time with his family is Patrick’s priority. He has four children – two boys and two girls, ranging from almost seven years old to two-weeks old. Laughing, Patrick said, “Three of them are in diapers!” He’s hoping that situation changes soon as he is working with both his daughters on potty training. Patrick said that he is “a big music fan and will listen to any kind of music.” He especially likes rock and country. He likes to be outside, is a “big race fan,” and as a side hobby, works on cars.
Piece of Advice and/or Encouragement for Future Team 1 Team Members: “I would encourage a future Team Member to learn as much as you can. Take all the training you can. Try everything at least once because that’s the only way you’ll ever progress in life.”
Random Question: Who is the best Cartoon Character? “I’m stuck between the Minions and Maui from Moana.” He then shared what he likes about each. “I like the Minions just because they are different. They are always doing something oddball or trying to be evil. It’s kinda of like watching the Three Stooges in a cartoon form. And, Maui — I like the way he acts. He’s like a conceited guy, but he tries not to be the conceited guy and the hero at the same time. It’s funny to me.”
