Team 1 Plastics Hosts Future of Automotive Seminar
Three top thought leaders from the automotive industry, Daron Gifford, Jeff Schuster, and Jeff Stout, were guest speakers at the Future of Automotive Seminar hosted by Team 1 Plastics on November 16, 2018. The event was held in Albion College’s Baldwin Hall in Albion, Michigan.
Craig Carrel, President and Co-owner of Team 1 Plastics said that the company had been asking the question, “How can Team 1 as a Tier 2/Tier 3 supplier survive, thrive, and be successful in this ever-changing automotive landscape?” The company realized that they needed help in answering the question so they decided to host the seminar. Carrel said, “We brought in three industry experts to talk about that very issue.”
The following video shares highlights from the seminar. Each of the speakers’ presentations, the panel discussion, and the full-length videos are available on Team 1 Plastics’ YouTube channel.
The first speaker was Jeff Schuster, President, Americas Operations and Global Vehicle Forecasts at LMC Automotive and a member of the LMC Automotive board of directors, who shared his presentation, “The Long Winding Road to Autonomous Vehicles.” His response to Team 1’s question was to “be flexible and understand your customer and know the market and where they’re going.”
Jeff Stout, Executive Director, Research, Technology and New Mobility – North America for Yanfeng Automotive Interiors, continued the seminar with his presentation, “Future of Mobility.” Stout acknowledged that he and Schuster don’t see eye to eye about the future of the automotive industry, referring to their differences as “The Jerry Springer Show.”
After lunch was served, Team 1 Plastics’ owners, Craig Carrel and Gary Grigowski, shared their “Perspective of Tier 2/3 Supplier,” referring to their position as a flea on the tail of an elephant in a stampede.
Daron Gifford, who is a partner and leads Plante Moran’s Strategy and Automotive consulting practices, was the final speaker with his presentation, “Future of Mobility: Disruptive Technologies Create New Realities.” He suggested, “We’re back to the Tom Cruise movie, Minority Report. Maybe all we need is a single-passenger vehicle.”
The day concluded with a Panel Q&A Discussion with all three guest speakers participating. Moderating the Q&A was Laurie Harbor, President and CEO of Harbour Results Inc.
The Master of Ceremonies for the seminar was Glenn Stevens, Executive Director of MICHauto and Vice President of Automotive and Mobility Initiatives at the Detroit Regional Chamber.
Team 1 Plastics thanks these industry experts for sharing their expertise and time with its Team Members and guests. And, for making their presentations available to the public.
